Details
Palmallet Cottage is the perfect place for you to unwind and get away from it all. All of the rooms are light and airy and have views to the garden outside. The sitting room has a wood burning stove where you can enjoy cosy nights in and the farmhouse style kitchen is equipped with a Belfast sink and Rangemaster cooker where you can enjoy family meals or a romantic candle lit dinner.  The cottage has a beautiful secluded garden which is bursting with colour throughout the year.  It is the perfect place to relax and unwind and is a haven for birds and insects of all species.  At the top of the lawn you will find a secret garden and summerhouse which is the perfect place to read a book whilst enjoying a glass of your favourite wine.  The cottage is situated next to coastal walks and also enjoys views of Palmallet Loch - perfect if you enjoy fishing, cycling, walking or just simply relaxing. Palmallet Cottage is close to Garlieston, Whithorn and Isle of Whithorn and is suitable for 4 people (a fold out bed and/or a cot are also available on request). All bed linen and towels are included.

Renewable energy

The electricity to the cottage is supplied by renewable energy produced by two wind turbines on Palmallet Farm - but don't worry this is backed up by the national grid when the wind is not blowing!

Garden

A honeysuckle archway leads you to a beautiful secluded garden which is bursting with colour throughout the year. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind and is a haven for birds and insects of all species. At the top of the lawn a second flowering archway leads you to a secret garden. Here you will find a summerhouse which is the perfect place to read a book whilst enjoying a glass of your favourite wine. Around the cottage there are rockeries and flowering borders which you can enjoy at any time of the year.

Storage
There is a gardener's store which can be used for storing bicycles.

Surroundings

Palmallet Cottage is surrounded by some of Scotland's most beautiful countryside and farmland. Palmallet Pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle graze in the fields nearby. The cottage enjoys views across Palmallet Loch which is a habitat to lots of wildlife. Throughout the spring and summer you can watch swans nesting and cygnets learning to swim, and feed. There are hundreds of species of ducks and birds which visit and live around the loch at different times of the year. If you are lucky you may also catch a glimpse of a heron or one of the many birds of prey in the local area. At dusk a family of deer often stroll across the fields and you may also see badgers or foxes out hunting. Across from the cottage is Cruggleton Church where you can explore the grounds within the walled enclosure and if you are lucky you may be able to attend the ecumenical service held in the summer. This picturesque area is perfect for photographers and artists.

Walking
There is a coastal walk which you can join by walking through Palmallet Farm steading. From here you can either head North towards Garlieston or South towards Isle of Whithorn keeping to the coast or returning via the road from both villages. The walk is fully accessible along the way. This is a popular walk and many people come to enjoy the views from Cruggleton Castle which is only a short distance from the cottage. You will also find plenty of shorter circular walks in the surrounding area through forests and along beaches at Galloway House Estate.

Eating out

There are several pubs and restaurants nearby serving locally sourced food just a short drive from the cottage. The very popular Steam Packet Inn in the picturesque harbour village of Isle of Whithorn is only a five minute drive away, or for a slightly longer drive you could try the Clansman restaurant in Port William or the Bladnoch Inn not far from Wigtown.

Fishing

Some of the best fishing rocks in Britain are located off Palmallet Farm, around a 15 minute stroll from the cottage. People visit from near and far to spend a day fishing here.
