>  Mossdale to Secret Cages – guided walk


Thursdays 21 June, 26 July & 9 August 2012, 9:45 AM to 1 PM.


Meet at Mossdale car park, DG7 2NF.


A 5 km walk from Mossdale to the Secret Cages, taking in views and wildlife along the old railway line and the Raiders’ Road and returning via Mossdale Loch. >  Red Kite Trail Cycle Ride – bicycle run


Saturday 30 June 2012, 10.15 for 10.30AM to 3.30pm.


Meet at Laurieston Village Hall Car Park, DG7 2PW


This ride is deservedly turning into an annual favourite with the D&G Cyclist Touring Club, and for 2012 the ride is now taking place in early summer rather than autumn. Join D&G CTC and RSPB’s Calum Murray on a route through the woods past Woodhall Loch and down the west side of Loch Ken to RSPB’s Ken-Dee Marshes reserve and the Kite Feeding Station at Bellymack Hill Farm, where the kites put on a spectacular display of wheeling and diving. Note that there is a charge at Bellymack Hill (£2.50). Grade: Moderate and one strenuous hill. About 12 miles, mostly off road – wide tyres recommended. >  Red Kites & Geese in Flight – guided walk


Tuesday 23 October 2012, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.


Meet at RSPB Ken Dee Marshes car park, DG7 2LY


Join the community liaison officer on a walk to the bird hides to see this RSPB reserve in autumn colour, woodland and wetland wildlife and learn more about the ongoing conservation work being done in and around the reserve for these species. >  Feed the Red Kites Open Day – kite viewing


Saturday 27 October 2012, 1:30 PM to 4 PM.


At Bellymack Hill Farm - kite feeding station, Laurieston, DG7 2PJ.


Part of RSPB's Feed The Birds Day. FREE entry to the red kite feeding station at Laurieston. See the red kites massing at the feeding station as they come to feed. RSPB staff will be on hand to show you these magnificent birds, provide information and answer questions about kites and how to help wildlife during the winter months. Grade: Easy & Optics provided.



Events for early 2013


>  Red Kite Roost Watch – kite viewing/guided walk


Saturday 12 & Sunday 20 January 2013, 2:45 PM to 4:30 PM.


Location on kite trail, to be confirmed.


See red kites as they come in to roost together, in woods around the kite trail. These birds sometimes gather in a flying circus before settling at dusk.
