Remington Hot Springs

Remington Hot Springs are commercially built pools that are located along the banks of River Kern. They are near the Town of Bodfish, California. These rock cemented pools offer stunning views of the wildflower patches, the river, and the surrounding wilderness. These Hot Springs consists of 4 pools. Three of which are located on the banks. The other one is located 50 feet above the other pools and is popularly known as Miner’s tub.

These undeveloped natural heated pools were discovered by the Native American tribes thousands of years ago. Recently, ruins of the ancient indigenous people settlements were found nearby these hot springs. It is believed that these Hot Springs were sacred to the tribes. They have been dependent on these mineral-rich pools for warmth, cleaning, and healing. Later, the White settlers found these steamy pools again and built commercialized versions for tourists to soak. 

The steamy pools are now managed and maintained by a group of locals who call themselves “Friends of Remington”. However, they do not charge any fees and the steamy pools are open to all. The Remington Hot springs are popularly referred to as Lake Isabella Hot springs. Especially due to their location being closer to Lake Isabella.

The Remington Hot Springs are located near the Bodfish Town of Kern County, California. Bodfish town is located on the Sierra Nevada Valley 32 miles northeast of the City of Bakersfield. You can reach Bodfish Town from Bakersfield by heading Northeast on the California State Route 178 for 40.4 miles.

From Bodfish Town, head west on Columbus Avenue for 0.2 miles, Keep a Lookout for the Third Cross Street, where take a right turn onto Caliente Bodfish Road. Follow the road for 0.1 miles and turn left onto Kern Canyon Road. Head straight for 5.4 miles which will lead you to the Dirt Parking Lot where the Trailhead is located on the right side.

The steamy pools of the Hot Springs contain high sulfur content, which is recognizable easily due to the smell. However, the sulfur mineral-rich pools have various health benefits for Soakers like treating skin infections and irritations. The steamy pools are fed by the source near the top main pool. It is smaller compared to the other pools. The pools are connected through pipes to the main pool, which is directly connected to the source. As a result, the main pool is maintained at a slightly higher temperate at 106 Degrees. Whereas the other two pools near the riverside are maintained at 103 degrees and 100 degrees. Apart from this, the Miner’s tub pool located on the top is the oldest tub of all. Its temperature lies at 100 degrees.

The Steamy pools can be accessed only through a short 0.4 km long steep and dusty Hiking Trail. The Trail starts from the Dirt Parking Lot located along Kern Canyon Road. Nudity is Prohibited

It is strictly advised not to soak in these pools nude because the Hot Springs are located on the Forest Service Land. And you might get tickets by the Forest Rangers patrolling.
