Red Kite Sculptures
Start of Parton walk at the entrance to Loch Ken Holiday Park – Sculpture by Rodney Holland
This sculpture marks the start of the walk to Parton viewpoint, overlooking the southern half of the Ken/Dee hydroelectric catchment. Accross the water, you will see Airds Wood (a kite roost) and RSPB's Ken-Dee Marshes as well as a glimpse of the railway viaduct which once carried the 'Paddy Line' accross to Mossdale. Make sure you pop into the Holiday Park shop and information room for refreshments or information on the local area.
 In addition to the information points, there are two prominent red kite sculptures on the Galloway Kite Trail at the following locations:
Mossdale village green – Sculpture by Peter Bowsher
This sculpture marks the location where the trail was officially launched on 6th October 2003. The green is regularly maintained by the Mossdale community and makes a perfect place for stopping to picnic or refresh after an enjoyable walk to Loch Stroan or Garels Wood. Make sure you collect a walk leaflet or maybe the odd refreshment at the village shop. |
